September 2023 🌲🌳

September began with finishing up preparations for Outdoor Education at Camp Nathanael. Camp hosted it’s 1st Annual Father & Son Hike (which Jasper and Lee went on)! And soon afterwards Camp was transformed into a field trip all about Trees. The Trees-R-Terrific program teaches students about trees (if it wasn’t obvious). Students are led through 10 workshops showing everything about Trees. How they grow, their use throughout history, all the products made from them, how we get paper, the biggest trees, how sawmills cut them to be used, and which trees grow in Kentucky! Students even go on a short hike by Troublesome Creek and identify native trees growing along the trail!

The program will finish up this Thursday 10/6/23 and we have had many volunteers come to help us set up, teach workshops, cook, clean up, and tear down. Our volunteers have included people taking a week “vacation”, small groups, retired individuals, and even some homeschoolers looking for some hands on activities! You can listen to a couple of volunteers talk about their time with Lee (and Steven) on the Voice of Camp Nathanael Podcast.

Projects!

In October many maintenance projects will take place. The Old Handcraft building which had been used for storage is being transformed into the newest family cabin called the Beech House. It will be able to house guests and families and allows us to welcome even more people! A logging company is continuing to expand roads into the back parts of campus and allows us to utilize even more of camp’s property for ministry!

Fall Overnights!

If you are in the area and have kids in 4th & 5th Grades or 6th-8th Grades, sign up for our Fall Overnights! These start on a Friday evening 6pm and go until Saturday afternoon at 2pm. The goal is to fit as many camp games and activities into that time frame as possible.

Family News!

After a checkup it was determined Jude needed some glasses. He’s excited about them but he’ll need some reminders to keep them on!

Pray with us!

  • Pray for safety for volunteers and us workers as projects are accomplished around campus!
  • Pray for campers as they come to Fall Overnights! (pray many would want to come back for summer too)
  • Pray for Outdoor Education: Trees-R-Terrific as students learn about God’s beautiful creation!
  • Pray for Lee’s family. Nana, Lee’s grandmother, passed away at the age of 92. She had been ill for some time but we know now that she is with her Lord. She will be missed.
