November 2023 🦃
Fall Weekend Overnights
We had our second Fall Weekend Overnight the first weekend in November. Middle Schoolers (6th-8th Grades) came from Knott and surrounding counties gathered to play games, eat tons of food, sing, and hear about the Gospel. For some campers this was their first time at camp (and hearing about Jesus)!
Lee also spent time doing his normal work in the office. He also was able to help some campers with their Camp Lessons (which once complete allows them to come to camp for free). Lee’s office work includes accounts receivable and payable, something we take very seriously to ensure the donations given can be utilized well.
Volunteer Appreciation Dinner
A new tradition was started this year on Friday, November 17th. Usually during December we would have a Mission Dinner (this usually ended up including many volunteers and friends). This year we started a new tradition to say thank you to all the volunteers that help with the many ministries at camp. While at the dinner Tess’ dad, Clark Henderson who recently retired was also honored for his 23 years of service at camp!

Family News
We added a new, foster, child to the family! He will be to referred to as “M” in our newsletters. M is 3 months old and the kids love to help with “the baby”. He is currently doing visits with family but the time-frame for when/if their case plan would be complete is still up in the air. Please be in prayer for M and his family!
At the beginning of November Tess’ Granny (Jackie Overbey) passed away. This is Tess’ maternal grandmother. We took some time this month to spend time with Tess’ family for the funeral. This happened during the first of the month, when we had originally planned on taking a short vacation. We had quickly adjusted our plans to be in Lexington for the funeral.
On the last night we were in Lexington (the funeral/visitation had already happened) we got the call for M at 830pm. We let the foster care worker know that we were in Lexington, KY and it would take 2 1/2 hours to get there to pick him up. They said that’s fine and so we said “yes”! Tess borrowed one of her parent’s cars and drove home to pick up M. They made it home just before midnight. Lee and the rest of the family got up the next day, packed up the hotel room, and spent some time with family before heading back to Hindman (this gave Tess and M some time at home to get things settled).
If we were on vacation there’s no way we would have been able to get back. This is not to say that a funeral is good but it does show that God is able to do good in the middle of sorrow. We are so thankful for God’s sovereignty and direction in the midst of our foster care journey. He is teaching us to trust Him more and more throughout this journey and we are thankful He is in control when we are definitely not.
