Preparing for Pioneer Days!

August is a month full of preparations for our Outdoor Education program happening in September. Tess will be running the store for all of the kids participating in the program. Lee will be filling into some different roles and will be doing his normal office work. We will have thousands of kids (as well as teachers, parents and bus drivers) come onto our campus during this program, learning about life during the Pioneer Days. The average of the past couple of years is around 3000. Because they have come to us, we will be able to share the gospel with them during this program as well. For some of these kids this will be their first introduction to Camp Nathanael!

Father & Son Hike

The Men’s Ministry put on a 2nd annual Father&Son Hike. This time we hiked up to Old Hilltop (this was the original spot that campers would hike to at the end of a week of camp for a final campfire) and then around the bank of Troublesome Creek. I, Lee, took Jasper and Jude and they had fun skipping stones and eating some native plants while hiking. I got to lead a quick devotion on Philippians 3:18 encouraging dads to read the Bible with their sons and set the example, like Paul, of what it means to follow Jesus.

The devotion I led was about reading the Bible with your children. Here are some of the main questions to ask and points:

  1. Who wrote the book and who’s it written to?
  2. What’s the whole book about? Look up overviews (remember you can’t trust everything you read on the internet)
  3. Read straight through.
  4. What happens when you get to difficult parts?
    • Do your best
    • Research – Talk with others in your church who know more
    • And follow up with your kids

Why do all this? It lets your kids know that the Bible is important. And when you get to parts that are difficult the Bible is worth the time and effort to pursue answers.

I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:18
