Summer Camp 2022 Part 2 & Flood Relief
Last week we finished up the final week of Summer Camp. And this week Eastern Kentucky was hit with a flood that has never been seen before.
We’ll start with a quick breakdown of Summer Camp and then let you know how you can be praying and partnering with camp with flood recovery.
Summer Camp 2022 Breakdown
It was a blast seeing camp from the full time perspective. In the past Tess has been the “Mission Kid” and the “Summer Missionary”. I, Lee, had only seen the Family Bible Conference from the participant side! It’s amazing to see how much God moved through the lives of everyone attending and working at camp.
What’s happening now?
Normally we would start preparing for our fall activities and ministries (Outdoor Education). On Wednesday, July 27th, Eastern Kentucky was hit with storms and rain. According to many locals this was record rains and it flooded many of the creeks in the area. Much of our hometown, Hindman, was flooded including Main Street. So our normal Fall events and ministries will be put on hold as we serve our community.
The main waterway in Knott County is called Troublesome Creek and it runs directly through the middle of Camp. Some of Camps buildings were damaged and they will be assessed eventually. Currently we are working to set camp up to receive first responders and clean up crews/volunteers. Camp has already been utilized by the National Guard. Other relief organizations, churches, and missions will utilize camp in the coming weeks.
Camp will be fine and we will eventually get it set back up but our first priority is serving our community. We have generators at camp to provide power to our Dining Hall and the well (which needs power to pump). This allows us to provide safe drinking water and meals to those in need and to those rescue and clean up teams. We will also be offering showers, meals, and housing to our community.

Pray with us!
- Pray for the families who have lost loved ones in this flood.
- Pray for those who lost their homes and vehicles and are figuring out what their next move needs to be.
- Pray for the locals and those coming who are cleaning up and eventually rebuilding.
- Rebuilding will take some time so continue to pray months from now as homes and businesses and churches are reestablished and rebuilt.
- Finally pray for the kids who attended Camp Nathanael this summer. Pray that they continue to “Press On” in becoming more like Christ as they minister to those in their family and neighbors in this very difficult time.
