Flood Relief

It has been a month since the flood hit South Eastern Kentucky. Camp lost 3 guest cabins and other buildings were completely submerged. Many families though lost everything and 38 people in Eastern Kentucky have lost their lives. 17 were from Knott County (where Camp Nathanael is located). But through this tragedy God has used Camp and many other churches, ministries, and neighbors to bring hope.

Showers, Supper, Supplies, and Shelter

  • Camp became home to 20-30 displaced individuals, provided meals, showers, supplies to our neighbors, and is housing multiple work teams from churches and mission organizations!
  • Our Dining Hall, which had a layer of mud through the whole thing, was quickly turned around to be able to provide meals. This was accomplished with the help of the staff at camp and volunteers.
  • And our gym was turned into a distribution center giving out everything from diapers to shovels to beds. We have received and continue to receive donations from churches and individuals from across the country! We know that many of you have given as well!
  • We also have had many work teams from all different areas come to clean up and start rebuilding our community. Many more are scheduled for the weeks and months to come.

Both of us spent the first couple of weeks after the flood helping clean and mud out homes.

Since then I, Lee, have been in the office processing donations and other office work (part of my regular job). It’s been humbling seeing how many people from all over support and want to ensure the future of Camp Nathanael. It’s been especially amazing to see the support come in for flood relief (paying for all those ministries above).

Tess has been helping out in the dining hall and in the Distribution Center, sorting and organizing the donations that come in. The Distribution Center is set up in sections so that people can come “shop” for anything they may need. Everything is being given away for free.

The kids have been helping in the Distribution Center ensuring all the toys work and playing with all the kids that come in with their parents!
